Squirtle OWNS Brock to and Wartorte is more than good enough to beat Misty. Also if you learn it Ice Beam, it becomes super effective in 5/8 Gyms (Brock, Misty, Erika, Blaine, Geovani) And it OWNS Bruno and Lance.

I usually don't use squirtle, usually stick to Charizard with the occasional Venasaur. Just did it to change it up (and because megapunch on wartortle is so legit).

I always forget to use the TMs, I just put them im the PC until it becomes full

Well you get megapunch in Mt. Moon, and it's your first good TM (I think) in the game. I tend to use it on my squirtle files, but again, don't have too many of em lol.

Well Bide (TM34, Reward from brock) can be useful if you learn it to a tank, like snorlax or something. But because Snorlax is not possible to get that early in the game Bide is not very useful. So yeah Megapunch is the first good TM.
