What RuneScape is now in my eyes?
A breed of players, that are no more…

I guess there is no one word description to what I think about RuneScape
Don’t get me wrong I enjoy this game whole heartedly, even at work when I have some free time I tend to log in do have a chat with people maybe buff up some afk-able exp but recently I’ve found myself less and less attracted to the game, and what infuriates me is that I don’t place blame on Jagex like a lot of people do, I place majority of the blame for my lack of interest in RuneScape.

I’m happily killing goblins, with slingshot, running around the whole wooded area, making sure I don’t waste time or lose exp, run past 2 people dancing – nothing wrong with that, 2 people who want to socialise and spend some game time together, I run near my kill target, and their text pops into my chat box, I will not state the full context, but will summarise for you to get an idea.

The one in the female character: Can I have the 8mill for tomorrow?
The male: yes, I’ll see you around the same time?
Female: yeah just taking my baby sister to school and mom will be at work to 3:30
Male: great I cant wait to see you ***** dance for me again

Basically what I witnessed just completely tore down what I thought RuneScape was.
I’m not going to bother to guess the age of either of them, I don’t think it matters at this point.

But the conclusion of this was simple, a girl is offering to showcase herself on camera just so she can obtain some items in a game.

There are 2 responsible parties in this horrific occasion, 1st the male who’s literally taking advantage of this girl/woman (more inclined to say girl) and 2nd Jagex, indirectly by allowing people who are much better off in real life to obtain items in game without working for them, of course everyone knows what I am talking about.
This girl, has no such resources, she lives with her parents, (probably attends secondary school/high-school) and enjoys playing this game, and obviously to play the game you want best things you can get, armour upgrades, weapons…skills etc. and since she has no possibility of buying the Game “life style” she wants, she resorted to this, who knows how long this has been going on for or what will the male ask of her to do in the future, I of course reported them both, and although I know it may sound bad or “Evil” of me but I truly hope Jagex takes notice of this, and bans them both, and in turn this should limit the interaction this girl and guy have off-game. Since there is no temptation to upgrade yourself in game, she won’t have any more reason to stay in contact with him.

Now here is my question.

What has happened to turn an online game such as RuneScape, into a pest ridden “chat” client, that allows ones wealth to directly dictate another’s personal life.
1 person (buying items / exp /cash ) from jagex,
Makes another person who’s in direct competition with them on HS (for example) spend that extra 10-15 minutes grinding on a skill/kill instead of lets say going to sleep or work or school like that girl.

I enjoy this game less and less every day, scamming/dirty play this immediate hate that most have for one another just from the get go, most of us who PVM would understand what I mean (Crashed at Bandos- oh you gonna cry now?/ Madbro/ F off..F** )…etc.
I have a better item than you, therefore I am in command of this conversation, ergo whatever you say is null and any reply I give is LAW.

These things above, are just the tip of what RuneScape has going on now.

Sadly, I don’t see new breed of players enjoying this game as it should be, weather now or in eoc.

RuneScape….is there a point in carrying on a fight that you know will only have great loss and realisation that all this time you’ve been playing a game with nothing but hope..?

I feel ashamed of 50% of my game play, I am to blame just as the rest.

What happened..?

Well thats pretty sad, and its definitely a harsh reality that one thing has led to another and the rs community is deteriorating.

Is a shame she has resorted to such methods of progression in the game. The community is not what it used to be for sure, people will constantly belittle others for what armour they have and all sorts of stupid things like that.

On a side note: I love these sorts of tip.it time topics Smile

My first encounter with this phenomenon was back in 2006 when I started rs. Walking around lumbridge I occasionally saw people advertising that they will be your rs girlfriend for gp. I could for the life of me not figure out why they did it nor why people might choose to take them up on their offer. Changing your rs acc to a female avatar seemed like an awful amount of work just for a chance to make a quick few k's. Furthermore There's an extremely high likelyhood that those are males anyway.
Not to mention the message one is sending about one's ability to fend for oneself.

I myself was perfectly content camping goblins for money. Smile

I had a very fond memory of being lured to the wildy and losing my very first full rune set, glory and scimitar, that i'd worked so hard for, camping hill giants. I quit for 2 years... and a friend got me into it again. Unfortunately, the number of legit players are dwindling, and the Grand Exchange is slowly turning into a casino. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why people treat this game like this. Jagex isn't exactly diffusing the situation, with the release of SoF and Solomon's, and not even bothering to do simple things like altering flowers, etc. Jagex are the architects of their own downfall, because every game will have such trolls, they've just got to invent ways to try and combat this. But at the moment, im quite happy on rs. I hope the release of EoC doesnt change this.
